Snails are a delicacy enjoyed across many cultures, known for their rich flavor and versatility in the kitchen. At Namsnails we want to bring good quality snails home. With our IQF method, you already have a convenient, high-quality ingredient that’s cleaned and ready to cook—making gourmet meals surprisingly easy to prepare at home.
Many people think that if they want to eat snails, the restaurant is the only place to get them, but that can change. For those who want surprise guests with restaurant-quality snails for starters at a barbecue, can now easily prepare their own snails. All you need is:
- 200g snails from Namsnails
- Freshly chopped garlic, 5-7 cloves (depending on your taste)
- 250g Salted butter or if you have fresh, homemade butter the better
- Mozzarella cheese
- Garlic and herb spice
- Parsley, finely chopped
- Ciabatta bread
While the fire is crackling, place a fire-proof pan on the coals and let the butter melt. Then add the chopped garlic, but be careful not to burn the garlic. Remove the snails from the packaging and add them to the butter for 30 seconds. Then add the spices and stir for 2 minutes. Once the foam from the butter has subsided, scoop the snails into snail bowls. Top with a bit of cheese or enjoy without cheese. Remember to cut the ciabatta into slices and slightly brush them with butter, and toast them lightly over the braai. If you added cheese, put your snail bowls on the fire and bake for 2 minutes until melted. Before serving, sprinkle chopped parsley.
Snails are traditionally used as starters, but they can easily be used in a delicious dinner. For example, they can be added to pasta, stews and even curries. Snails pair well with tomato-based stews with pepper and onions, served with rice. They can also be added to soups and noodle dishes. Imagine eating an escargot pizza! Snails will pair excellently with peppers, tomato and cheese.
These are just a few dinner ideas that you can easily make for yourself and loved ones at home! Cooking with snails doesn’t have to be intimidating—especially when using convenient IQF products like those from Namsnails. Whether you’re preparing a quick appetiser or a hearty main dish, these recipes bring out the unique, delicate flavor of snails in simple yet satisfying ways.
